Celebrating A Beautiful Year of Marriage

John and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary last weekend and we had so much fun. I'm going to start out by saying that I love that we got married in winter. I think this time of year is so romantic- it's cold so you have to snuggle up to stay warm, all the pretty lights, the warm/fuzzy feelings that surround the holidays..really I love that we get to celebrate our relationship this time of year.

I got the day off work on Friday and we headed up to Portland to eat at a restaurant called McCormick & Schmick's. It was beautiful. It's a seafood restaurant that sits right on the Riverfront in downtown Portland. I requested a seat next to a window so we could watch the Christmas ships. The ships were really cool, I'd love to go up and see them again, and the restaurant made us feel so special.

Waiters and waitresses would come up to our table and say things like, "Are you guys the happy couple celebrating their anniversary?" and then they'd congratulate us and wish us many more years of happiness, it was sweet. When they brought out our menus the top of the menus said "Happy 1st Anniversary!!!" which I absolutely loved, and they wrapped one up and gave us one for a keepsake. How cool is that? The service was top notch and the food was fantastic. I had hard apple cider with crab, and John had a beer with salmon. When we asked for a dessert menu our waitress brought out a chocolate mousse dessert plate with two candles on it, it was our complimentary dessert and oh man was it good!

Really the night was fantastic, I couldn't have wished for anything more.

Then on Sunday (our actual anniversary) we went to John's parent's house for lunch and his parents and grandparents had given us a pack of toilet paper and a card with money in it (since it was our paper anniversary), I thought that was so sweet of them. After lunch we headed home and we put up Christmas lights on our house, then came inside and watched our wedding video and ate our wedding cupcakes. It was perfect.

We couldn't really afford gifts this year, so our gift to each other was our fancy dinner, but I did make John a crossword puzzle of our story- all the questions and answers were based around our relationship; he was surprised and thought it was cute.

Basically, our first anniversary rocked. I wouldn't have done anything any differently.
