I know Pierce has been able to hear for a while now, but I think his hearing is improving because the other day at work I was sitting feeding a baby while another baby was having a total meltdown right next to me, and as I was sitting there (don't worry, meltdown baby was being taken care of by my co-teacher) I felt him kick 15 times! FIFTEEN! Before then I hadn't felt more than four kicks total, but fifteen at once?? It made my entire day!
Since finding out that we're having a boy I've officially started on the nursery. So far I don't have much done...like, hardly anything done. I started painting the trim a week ago, and I'm still working on it. The original trim was an ugly dark brown and because I'm painting it white it's taking quite a few coats to cover completely. Also, I'm still waiting for John to move out the guest bed in there so I can paint behind it, so far I've only been able to paint around the bed. That's our project for today though- to finish the trim, and to get the bed out. I think that once the painting is done though I'll feel more accomplished because we can move the stuff we do have into the nursery. We still need to get a dresser or armoire (I really want an armoire but we'll see if I can find one that doesn't cost an arm & a leg) and a glider, but aside from those two things I think all of the big items are purchased. We have been so blessed by the people around us! We have had so many items given to us and a couple bought for us, items that would have cost us a lot of money. We are so grateful for everyone's genuine excitement and generosity towards us <3
On a different note, last Sunday I was at my niece's 1st birthday party when suddenly she opens a gift that says "Kennedy (that's her name) is going to be a big sister!" Come to find out John's brother is expecting another baby 4 weeks after we are!! They're just now telling people so I still forget sometimes that Jaici is almost just as far along as I am haha but we're excited that Pierce will have a cousin that's so close in age :) John's cousin's wife is also expecting a little girl 4 weeks before us...there are going to be lots of little cousins running around at family functions. I loved having my cousins around when I was little, and John is extremely close to his- we love that our baby boy will have the same fun experiences.

A Super Mushy Post About the Love of My Life
Warning: this is going to be a pretty mushy post.
I am so overwhelmed by the love I have for my husband. I don't know if I could possibly love him anymore than I do, but my love for him keeps growing and I find myself loving him more and more every day. The past few nights I've gone to bed a little later than John and I get so excited just to sleep next to him. I get in bed, lie next to him, and I feel so lucky that I'm the one God chose to be his. I was lying in bed last night thinking that sleeping next to him is one of my favorite things- the security, love, and warmth that I feel is a feeling I hope everyone experiences with their spouse.
My husband is such a hard worker. He volunteers to work 60 hour weeks to help provide for us and our future baby. But even though he's exhausted and beat up at the end of the day, he makes sure to spend time with me and Duke every night. He's completely supportive in everything that I do and all the decisions I make whether they are personal decisions or professional. He loves his family so much and it's apparent how family-centered he is to everyone who knows him. Not only that, but he's the best friend anyone could ask for. Which explains why he has so many people that label him (and who he labels) as a "best friend".
There really are hundreds of reasons why I love him and most of them are small things that he probably doesn't even know that he does. Some of those reasons are also the same things that drive me bonkers, but even with those in mind I wouldn't change a thing about him. I love everything about who he is and what makes him tick.
I feel lucky to be so in love. In a couple months we'll have been together for 8 years and when I think back over what all has happened in those 8 years, the best things that have happened have happened because of John. My life is what it is because of him.
I warned you this was going to be mushy :) but sometimes I just can't contain it :)

And the Search is Over!!
Oh man, I am so thrilled you guys!
After our loss of the name Naomi I have been searching and searching baby girl names trying to find one that John and I could both agree one. That was nearly impossible. I like unique; he likes traditional. I like modern; he likes Biblical. Oh man, it was rough. We went through tons of names; I would come up with a list and he "could deal with" about three out of twenty. So back to the drawing board I'd go. There was one name I kept putting on there hoping he would change his mind, but each time the response I got was- "eh maybe I could deal with it". But I'd slip it on the list the next time hoping for a different reaction....the reaction was the same because I don't think he ever actually remembered it from the list before haha.
Tonight John mentioned our top three picks to the boys and tried to get some more opinions on them. The boys didn't like any of them, which makes John less excited about them, and in all honesty I had my own issues with each of them anyway. Then I did it; I mentioned that one name again and John said, "hmmm...what about _________" to the boys and they approved! With the guys approval behind us, and John's "yeah, I actually like that" response, we FINALLY have a baby girl name winner!
Our top three picks that arenot getting picked were:
Nova
Delaney
and
Darla
I love the idea of using Nova for reasons I've mentioned before; however, I want my baby to place their own stamp on a name, to make it their own, and every time I hear or read the name Nova I picture my great grandma. And I don't want that to change.
Delaney I still think is pretty, but it's just not meant to be our little girl (if baby is a girl....which I'm 98% sure she is). John wasn't thrilled about it but it was one of the least hated on the lists, John's friends crossed it off immediately (not that their opinion matters to me, but it does to him), and even my best friend had that "it's nice...." response which is never good haha. It just wasn't meant to be.
and lastly, Darla....I think this is the cutest name for a little girl, but that's just it- a little girl. It's one of those names that I couldn't picture as a woman's name in her 30's or so. For a little girl- darling! For a woman...I'm just not sure it grows up well.
So if anyone is looking for girl names, there's a couple ideas! Sorry if my explanations ruined them for anyone!
When we find out for sure what gender our little lamb is (hopefully on the 3rd, if not then then in June), I'll announce our names.
I was so excited about our boys name we've picked that I didn't think we could find a girls name to match my excitement, but we did!!
*Maybe if you're super curious and want to ask me privately about our names I'll tell you ;) I just don't want it publicly listed on this blog yet :)*
Now you guys don't have to hear about my rants during this stressful search! Aren't you excited now too?? haha

More Gifts for Baby
John and I have truly been blessed with an amazing support system and are surrounded by generosity.
Last night I was babysitting one of the little boys in my class and his parents (who I love, they're the sweetest) gave us some of his old baby things. We received a bouncer, an activity mat, and a boppy pillow. All used for only one child; all in excellent condition.
Those things are so pricey individually, even a simple boppy pillow is like $50 (ridiculous, right?) so having them give this stuff to us is such a treasure!
We have so much stuff already; I know I've said it before, but this child is so spoiled already. And we're very grateful!!

Baby Merrigan
It's time to come clean blogger friends. You see, I've been keeping a secret from you...
Yes, it's true. John and I are pregnant :)
I found out I was pregnant the night before my birthday (Happy Birthday to me!!), but we were so scared that we were going to lose this one too we didn't tell anybody. We kept our faith in God, our fingers crossed and our mouths shut until we were able to see the doctor and hear our little one's heartbeat. So a few weeks ago we went in to my OB and sure enough we heard the "swoosh swoosh" of the heart- 120 bpm and everything looks great :)
My doctor and I disagree with how far along I am, but there's a bit of confusion because I got pregnant only two weeks after my miscarriage. Apparently you're super fertile after a miscarriage- who knew. So the confusion lies in me not having a typical cycle in between pregnancies, but I'm pretty positive I'm 10 weeks (doctor thinks I'm 8 but I don't think that's possible). Our due date is either October 8th (if I'm right) or October 21 (if the doctor is right).
So far this pregnancy is completely different from the last one, which is a very good thing!
For the first couple weeks I felt great! Aside from extremely sore boobs I didn't feel much different at all. And then BOOM, the nausea hit like a ton of bricks and has yet to go away. I'm nauseous 95% of the time- morning, afternoon, night, my body doesn't care. I'm not craving anything because most foods make me sick. My boobs, well, they still hurt like a mother. I get tired very easily; I'm ready for a nap by noon everyday and crash when I get home, but you know what? All these symptoms mean high pregnancy hormones, which means a healthy baby. So if me being sick and exhausted means my baby will be healthy, I'll take this all 9 months long.
John is very excited. He was scared and nervous at first and didn't want to talk about the baby in fear of losing it, but once he heard the heartbeat it was a different story.
We've named baby, but we've had names for a while.
We have nursery themes picked out, we just have to wait a few more weeks till we can find out the gender.
And we're getting a crib soon :)
So that's where we're at. We have a very healthy baby, a very nauseous mommy, a very excited daddy, and all the other details are slowly getting taken care of as well :)

Homesick
Have you ever made a life changing decision and afterwards you can't stop thinking if it was the right one?
I made one of those two years ago and I'm still unsure if it was the right thing to do.
I'm really homesick. I've been really homesick for two years now. I have zero family out here (John's doesn't count) and I will never have family out here. I've made a handful of friends and I can honestly say I've only made one that I would be sad leaving. In two years I've only made one friendship that I would miss. How sad is that?
I love Oregon, I really do. I love being near the ocean. I love the rain. I love how green it is all the time. But I love my family more. I hate not being there for my grandma during this whole transition of losing my grandpa. I hate not being there for my sister and her last year of high school. I hate that I can't be with my dad and celebrate with him on every holiday. I miss my friends- my real, true, lifelong friends. I miss white Christmases. I miss being home. Plain and simple.
I know John loves being able to just go crabbing on a whim. I know he loves going salmon fishing whenever he wants. I know he loves having his parents near him. But I also know that he misses his best friends like crazy because he, like me, hasn't met any of those life-long friends yet. He mentioned the other day how if we could move back he could send himself to police academy and he's sure he would be able to land a job.
But how do we change it now? How do we just pick up again and move?
I think John and I need to have a serious talk....

Perceptions
I'm going to be as vague about this as possible so bear with me...
Today I was online and seeing as how I have ADD when I'm online (I can go from YouTubing Disney songs to looking up tattoo ideas in about 10 seconds flat) one link lead me to another and I stumbled upon a personal blog of someone I know. Yes, I know this person in real life, but we don't really know a lot about what makes each other tick if ya know what I mean. So, I read on. I read so I could get to know blogger in blogger's own words, after all, isn't that why people have blogs?
I felt awkward reading it because of the circumstances we're both in, but I did anyway. Blogger had quickly mentioned me in a couple blogs stating very obvious things about me, but one post in particular made me pretty upset. Blogger made a comment about me barely being 21 and already married (clearly this wasn't a too recent post, though blogger did have my age wrong at the time anyway. I was 22 when blogger wrote it and almost 22 when I got married...ANYWAY), living in a small town with only one main road, who stays inside all the time, doesn't do anything and "has no desire to change it".
I have issues with this statement. Many issues. First because it's condescending; second, because it alludes to a person who isn't who I am at all and third, because I feel blogger didn't even really try to get to know me for who I am before making this presumptuous comment.
Yes, I got married young and it was the best decision of my life. I love John with everything in me and wouldn't change the age we got married for anything. I wouldn't change our life for anything. Some people say we got married too young, I say- not for us. Everyone one is different, every relationship is different, what's right for one is not necessarily right for the other.
At the time blogger was around me I was living in a small town with one main road that I HATED. I seriously couldn't stand living in the town we lived in. I hated everything about it. It was too small, and I don't do small towns. I'm not in a big city now by any means nor do I want to be, but I need a city with a mall, and restaurants, grocery stores that stay open later than 9:00 at night, and a city that actually has things to offer- that town didn't, but circumstances led us there. Duke was growing way too fast for our little apartment and it wasn't healthy or fair for him to be cooped up in a small upstairs apartment. No one in our city would allow Huskies in rented properties (apparently they are on an aggressive breed list which I think is absolutely ridiculous, have you met Duke??), so we had to go 15 minutes out of our city to a very small town. None the less, being in a small town or a big city does not make someone better or worse than another person. Small towns are not for me, they're clearly not for blogger, but me living there for a couple months doesn't make me a lesser person. I didn't like it, so I changed it.
I don't stay inside all of the time. I work, I hang out with family, I go out with friends, John and I go out and do things, but just because I don't document every little thing I do via Facebook or just because I don't travel the world like blogger does, doesn't mean I'm a homebody who doesn't like to go out. On the contrary, I love to go out. I hate sitting home. I have to sometimes because John and I only have one car at the moment, but we/I go out when possible.
I also feel like blogger was "getting to know me" during an extreme transitional phase in my life, and that blogger's comments were wrongful assumptions. We had just moved to a small town I hated being in, and I hadn't made a lot of friends here yet so I didn't have a ton to do at the time, but seeing me for a few months out of my entire life does not give a full picture of who I am or what I want.
Blogger's post was not entirely about me, I was just a blurb in it, but these comments still made me really upset. Upset because I don't want people to think little of me or my life because I live a very full life. I have dreams and goals just like everyone else, but just because I want different things than blogger does or because I go about getting them differently does not give reason to belittling or even mentioning me in blogger's personal blog at all. I was upset with myself for giving off the perception to someone that that's who I am, and I was upset because I let Blogger's words upset me. There are other circumstances in this whole thing that are the main reasons it unnerved me so much, but I don't want to disclose them because it's a touchy subject. All I can say is, don't judge other people. Don't assume things about people. Just because you see or hear glimpses of another person's life doesn't mean you know what makes that person who they are...because you don't.

How To Date Your Spouse
I just came across a website called The Dating Divas
I'm so glad I found this! They have tons of ideas on how to date your spouse. LOVE it!
I have so many new ideas for romantic nights and "our" days. I would feel bad if i kept such an awesome thing a secret.
One thing I'm definitely doing is their frisbee golf with a twist . John loves frisbee golf but we haven't played a game since moving out here. What a great way to get back into a hobby and enjoy this beautiful hot, sunny weather we've been having. Seriously guys, check it out. I hope you guys find it helpful too!

Friend Notification
You know how on Facebook it notifies you that so and so is now friends with so and so? In the past year I've seen my friends from high school become friends with my friends from college, who then become friends with more of my other friends, etc. etc. all of who had never met before. So now my circle of college friends, church friends and high school friends are somehow all connected and we have the same friends. And every time I see this I think, "How did their paths cross?" or "How did that happen?".
It all just reminds me how small Utah really is and how thankful I am to be out of it! I think the icing on the cake was when I met a girl through a friend of mine from high school, and this girl had a boyfriend. We all hung out and they were planning on getting married. Next thing I know I had lost contact with all of them and I show up at one of my dad's parties only to see this girls (now) ex-boyfriend partying with my family! He had starting working with my mom, who then met my step-sister, and they all became friends, and so now I'm friends with him and I haven't spoken to either of the first two girls for 3 years! Hahaha. Yes, Utah is way too small.

Happy Birthday To Me
So yesterday was my birthday. Yep, it's official, I'm the big 2-3 now. It doesn't really feel like I'm 23, although I'm not sure what being 23 is supposed to feel like, but I don't feel like 21 was 2 years ago. That seems silly, yet it's true.
We didn't do anything big for my birthday. I wanted a day at the salon guilt free, and I got that. I decided to go back to my natural color (which I haven't been since I was 14 or 15) and after almost 4 hours of bleach washing and stripping the color out of my hair, I'm finally back. I honestly forgot what color my natural color was....that's pretty sad. So that's what I did Saturday for my birthday. Yesterday John made me a yummy breakfast (cheesy eggs, bacon, sausage, and chocolate milk mmmmm), then Matt came down and we headed over to John's parent's house where we had a little family birthday party. We had a big lunch (salmon, veggies, garlic bread, rice, and most importantly homemade red velvet cupcakes), we oped presents and played games. It was fun. Nothing crazy, but relaxing. I got Beauty and the Beast on DVD (my all time favorite Disney classic), clothes, gift cards,a pretty necklace, shoes and a stock of my favorite candies (kit kats and sour patch kids). After the party we headed home but decided to stop by Dutch Bros. cuz I wanted a chi tea; the barista asked what our plans were for the night, John told him it was my birthday and then he gave me my chi tea for free (thank you Mr. Barista!). After we got back to the house we sat down and watched Beauty and the Beast. After that it was kinda late so my brother headed home and John headed to bed. It was a really good day.
I will admit though that I am pretty disappointed in my family and really close friends. I love that modern technology makes it super easy to keep updated on your friend's life events (like how Facebook notifies you that it's someone's birthday), and I really appreciate all of the birthday wishes I got I really do. I got tons of comments on Facebook, and a few texts wishing a spectacular day (which I had), but out of all the family and close friends I have do you know how many actual phone calls I got? One. My mom called me to wish me a happy birthday. Everyone else resorted to Facebook or text to wish me a happy birthday (even then I got maybe 5 texts, all the others were through Facebook). For friends I don't mind that at all, I really don't (ok depending on the closeness of the relationship), but I'm a little disappointed that all I got from half of my family was a simple Facebook comment that said no more than an acquaintance would write. I didn't get a call or text from my dad, though I got a couple Facebook comments. I didn't get a call from my best friend (who always calls and sings me happy birthday). Out of the 10 siblings I have I only got one text. My grandma didn't call me which really blows my mind....the more I type it all out and actually think about it the more disappointed I get. Is that what it's come to? Relying on Facebook to wish your granddaughter, daughter, sister, or best friend a happy birthday? Unless it's an acquaintance whose birthday I wouldn't know if it weren't for Facebook, I always make sure to call or at the very least send a very energetic happy birthday text message if I can't call. Maybe that's why I'm upset, because I expect the same that I would give. But I didn't get it.So word to the wise guys, make that 2 minute phone call because people really do pay attention. And people really do love the sentiment.

From 2011 to 2012
2011 was a truly fantastic year...most of the time; however, the times that weren't so great were really hard. We've survived our first year here in Oregon, and it's from our move that the best times and toughest challenges came.
We visited the coast more than ever. We went camping and crabbing in the same month, sometimes in the same week. We visited a couple lighthouses, made new friends, lost some too. We got our baby Duke and learned the challenges of owning a Husky. We had people from back home come visit us and hotel Merrigan was full for 2 months straight. We went to and were in multiple weddings. We were able to go back home twice this year. John started out in a job he hated and found the Lowe's job which has been a blessing. We searched for a home church and finally found one we feel welcome in. I finally found a job in my career field and got out of the worst job on my resume' to date. I flew out to NC to reunite with Lizzie who I hadn't seen in 11 months. My brother moved to Oregon and announced his move to LA all in an 11 month time period. My great grandma passed away and I couldn't go out for the funeral. Kevin & Jaici announced their pregnancy. My little sister got a boyfriend. Tina, Dave, Karen and Mike all moved out of Utah to Oregon.
I'm sure that's not all of the major events that happened in our lives this year, but those are the ones that stand out and had the most influence. The best part of this year to me was Duke. He's made our lives so much better, maybe a little harder too, but the good definitely outweigh the bad. The worst thing that happened was the passing of my great grandma. There was nothing good about that. I'd do anything to have her back.
Who knew one year could bring so much change. Our first year as a married couple and as Oregonians has passed and I'm ready to see what this next year brings. I know for certain I'll start school again; I know I'll become an aunt, and I hope maybe a mother as well.
I've decided not to make a new year's resolution. But I've decided to pick one word that I want to describe this new year. I've thought about this word a lot, and I want my word for 2012 to be: productive. I feel like during the day while I'm at home I'll do some laundry...I'll clean a little....and but I sit online and I browse pinterest far more than I should; I "have" to watch my tv shows; I "have" to check my facebook, but none of that results in me having a productive day. So, 2012 will be a very productive year. I want to be productive in my daily routines. I want to be productive in my marriage. I want to be productive as a pet owner. I want to be productive in my schooling and in my job. I want to look back on this year and think, "Wow, look how much I did". I guess that is kind of a resolution huh? Either way...2012, let's get to work!

I Miss My Husband
You might think that sounds silly. How can I miss my husband if I live with him? Well, it’s quite simple really.
Our work schedules are complete opposites of each other. John leaves for work at 5:30 am Monday – Thursday (unless he picks up overtime which he does 9 times out of 10 then he works Monday – Saturday) and doesn’t get home until 5:00 pm. I on the other hand, leave for work at 5:30 pm and don’t get home till around 12:30 am sometimes a little later Monday- Friday. The only time we get to see each other is that 30 minutes between our shifts and Sundays.
He kisses me goodbye every morning, and he calls me 3-4 times during the day, and I text him while I’m at work, and all that helps but it’s hard not seeing your husband except for a mere 30 minutes a day. It makes me really appreciate our weekends together though, the weekends he doesn’t pick up extra shifts, and Sundays. Sundays are awesome because they’re guaranteed days with John.
I hope that sometime soon we can get on the same schedule. I’m sure some couples have done this for years, but I don’t want to be one of those couples. I’d like to sit and have real dinners with John, not rushed dinners before I leave for work; I’d like to be able to sit and relax with John at night, not come home to a sleeping house; I’d like to maybe even get up with John in the morning and have breakfast with him, not have a goodbye kiss at 5:30 before I’m even coherent. Though, I can say he wakes me up every morning with a kiss, and I’m definitely not complaining about that.
He’s an extremely hard worker and he does it all for us and I couldn’t be more grateful. This is all just part of being a responsible adult I guess. It just makes me sad that I don’t get to spend more time with him.
